Welcome to my website. I am Sheila Lauchlan, a Relationship/Family Psychotherapist and Counsellor based in Cobham, Surrey, which is within easy reach of Leatherhead, Epsom, Weybridge and Walton upon Thames, Horsley and Esher, as well as other towns in Surrey. This type of therapy has its roots in family psychotherapy and counselling, but nowadays the therapy is used in a very flexible way to work with individuals, couples and families. I have experience in working with all age groups, including adolescents. The work can be short term and focused, or if the issues are more complex it can take longer, and for those who frequently work abroad, I can provide a service via SKYPE.

When people experience difficulties in their lives, this often affects their relationships, and so this psychotherapy and counselling focuses on communication patterns and how these patterns create repetitive cycles, which are familiar but difficult to break. Once the patterns are identified, it is possible to create new solutions to life's dilemmas, and new patterns of thoughts, feelings and behaviours. I believe that everyone has the resources to solve their problems, but sometimes these resources get overwhelmed. Where appropriate I incorporate CBT techniques. I also use EMDR to unblock trauma reactions which have never been processed. This method is widely used within the NHS, and the research provides evidenced based practice.

Clients often report that they are able to enter into new and exciting possibilities, when their limited view of life is opened up.

I have been established as a counsellor, coach, psychotherapist and supervisor in my private practice in Cobham, Surrey since 1996. I have also worked within the NHS, both in adult and child mental health.

There is parking available. Cobham is easily accessible by car from Junction 10 on the M25 or from the A3. I am a 5 minute walk from Cobham and Stoke D'Abernon Station.
