Welcome to my website. I am Sheila Lauchlan, a Systemic/Family Psychotherapist and Counsellor based in Cobham, which is within easy reach of Leatherhead, Epsom, Weybridge and Walton on Thames, Horsley and Esher, as well as other towns in Surrey. This type of therapy has its roots in, family psychotherapy and counselling, but nowadays the system is used in a very flexible way to work with individuals, couples and families. I have experience in working with all ages groups, including adolescents.

When people experience difficulties in their lives, this often affects their relationships, and so systemic psychotherapy and counselling focuses on communication patterns and how these patterns create repetitive cycles, which are familiar but difficult to break. Once the patterns are identified, it is possible to create new solutions to life's dilemmas, and new patterns of thoughts, feelings and behaviours. I believe that everyone has the resources to solve their problems, but sometimes these resources get overwhelmed. I also use EMDR to unblock trauma reactions which have never been processed.

Clients often report, they are able to enter into new and exciting possiblities, when their limited view of the world is freed up.

I have been established in private practice since 1996. I have also worked within the NHS, both in adult and child mental health.


I work with a wide range of issues, again looking at the relationship people have to their problem.

My counselling/therapy practice is based in Cobham, Surrey between Guildford and Kingston upon Thames. Cobham is easily accessible by car from Junction 10 on the M25 or from the A3. I am a 5 minute walk from Cobham and Stoke D'Abernon Station. Towns nearby are Oxshott, Claygate, Epsom, Ashstead, Leatherhead, Headley, East Horsley, Effingham, Bookham, Fetcham, West Byfleet, Weybridge, Hersham, Walton-on-Thames, Esher, Hampton Court and Molesey. There is parking available.
